‘Devolution works – Scots, for example, largely, run their own affairs (giving up full autonomy because the Union offers the safety of being part of a bigger country).

Independence works better – Danes, for example, do run their own affairs. Democracy & autonomy is far more valuable to them than anything & everything the Union gives to us is.

Democracy, it’s been said, is ‘the worst system of government apart from all the rest’. Well, representative democracy’s imperfections are particularly vivid & problematic in Scotland. Since 1970 Scots have had a government they actually want just 34% of the time. This has had huge consequences for people & communities here. Westminster fails Scotland.
❝Nothing is more surprising than the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.❞ – David Hume
